FLAKE COMES TO COOMA!!!

Alastair Wharton ("In Few Minds" Producer/ Driector) with Flake Director Anthony Trovatello
The audience loved the cosy and couch like atmosphere of the HUB!

The 2008 Flake Film Roadshow has just rolled through the Snowy Mountains townof Cooma.

A fantastic crowd turned up to THE HUB youth Centre for what was an "exceptional and entertaining evening" said one fest goer "I was totally blown away at the outstanding quality of the films, especially the films from the Cooma locals" he goes on to say.

This was a special screening for Flake, as the 2008 festival features a short film from Cooma local Alastair Wharton (19) called "in Few Minds" which is about a young teenage boy, his  quirky  interactions  with people and how he deals with the world and his problems with it! Alastair (And main  character , played by  Liam) attended the festival and the audience were honoured to have him get up and talk about his film, the thought behind, the production process and his future plans.

The festival also showed a couple of other special films made by Cooma Youth, the first was "Land(e)Scape" by talented filmmaker and Student Alana Greig made as part of her HSC, the other was "Rewind" produced by local Cooma Year 11 Students with the assistance of Nikki Rabbitte, Hayley Redhead and Rewa Nolen- this film was recently awarded fourth place at the prestigious Metro Screen Awards in Sydney.

Festival Director, Anthony Trovatello was so proud to bring this years fest to Cooma and it showed through his enthusiasm and encouragement  of the Cooma youth "There are so many creative, talented and artistic youth here in Cooma, we (Flake) are proud to support them and to also provide them with a platform to display their talent- It is so important for the town of Cooma to understand and appreciate how talented their children are and to further nurture and support these great young people."

All of the final 16 films were again well received by the audience, many of whom were attending Flake for the first time and this screening has again uncovered a few early favourites for the Major awards of Best Film, Best Youth Film, Best Snow Film and Funniest Film (But we cant tell you anything yet!)

The flake bandwagon now heads high into the Snowy Mountains for a screening at the Sundeck Hotel at Perisher Valley on Thursday night, The Kosi Room a Thredbo on Saturday night and then sliding back down to Jindabyne for the sell out FINAL SHOW and Awards night on Monday 15th September.

"The filmmakers have done an outstanding job in recognising and representing the theme. Earlier today Australia's HIGHEST short film festival (Flake Film Festival) announced this year’s event dates and shared some light about the final film list!
Festival Director Anthony Trovatello (Chook) said, “We have selected an outstanding line up of films which show the talent and diversity of Australian (& International) filmmakers"

“Not only have we received a wide variety of films from deep drama, to funny stuff, snow films and a couple of animations, but the majority of films have strong production values and thoughtful storylines."
A special feature of the Flake Film Festival is the 2008 theme of LIGHT which was extremely well interpreted in many different ways. "We are so excited to show this year’s festival to the public!"

The Flake Film Festival will officially announce its film line up on Thursday 4th September, but have told us that this year’s fest will feature 11 premiere screenings and include shorts from amateur and professional filmmakers from all over Australia and New Zealand.

The festival will then screen at various venues and towns throughout the year.

Festival Director Anthony excitedly explains that "The screening nights are a unique and enjoyable film experience- you will be entertained by a variety of shorts that will take you on a journey where you will experience  and explore a wide range of feelings, thoughts & emotions-be prepared (or unprepared!) to laugh, cry, laugh some more, find yourself confused, shocked, fall in love, be amazed and more- all in less than 2 hours!"

Another unique feature of Flake is that the audience actually votes for some the major prize winners through the " You be the judge!" concept, so you actually have a say in who wins- and guess what- you dont even need to send a single SMS text!!!!
